My Hotel Review - ramarama Hotel Melaka

ramarama Hotel Melaka - Reasonably Priced Budget Boutique Hotel in Melaka

Last weekend I had a wedding to attend in Melaka, my niece was getting married . And a Eurasion wedding in Melaka is a tiring but fun whole day affair. There's the toasting at the bride's house, then the church ceremony followed by dinner and dance.

Even though Port Dickson is just about an hours drive to Melaka, we felt its best to stay at a small hotel and later go to the bride's house as we needed to be there very early. A friend spoke of this new budget boutique hotel that just opened in Melaka called the ramarama. Located near the Melaka Sentral and just by the side of Aeon Melaka.

The rooms are designed to have that rustic look with red brick walls. The beds and headboards are made of rough wood. Looks nice but you have to be careful of splinters. Otherwise its beautiful, my wife said we should make one like this at home. Even the bathroom door and cupboards are made from the rough wood with latches like similar to ones you will find in traditional villages. Some 20 years this kind of design for a hotel might be frown upon cause it was deemed as being cheap. But nowadays it will seen as unique. The beds and pillows are comfortable, each bed had 4 pillows as we took the room with 2 king size beds we had 8 pillows and 4 towels which was enough for us. There were no toiletries, face or handtowels like other hotels. But the two king bed room only cost RM135. What they gave was sufficient. The room had a small lcd tv with all the local channels, electric kettle with some 3 in 1 coffee as well as bathroom equiped with hot water shower. And Wifi is free.

Ramarama hotel doesn't have any restuarant in its vicinity but its ok. There's plenty around. There a chinese muslim restaurant and a western restaurant just next to it. The Aeon Shopping Mall is just walking distance from the Ramarama Hotel. So there's lots to choose from.

My verdict

If you looking for comfortable reasonably price lodgings, then Ramarama Hotel is for you. Its near to the Aeon and Tesco shopping malls, so food won't be a problem. Presently the shoplot are not fully open, so the area is rather quiet. To locate it just look for the Seng Heng electrical store. Ramarama hotel is just at the back of Seng Heng. From their website they even have a room that can house 7 people in bunk beds complete with curtains, lights, power socket and lockers.

Restaurant Review – Food Paradise at Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall

Being in the Food and Beverage Industry I am always on the lookout for unique and one of a kind food experience. Not only in unique food and beverages but unique dining experience. Recently a friend told me of this food court in Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall which is located just in front of Hatten Hotel. Its called Food Paradise. The unique thing about this food court is that they have incorporated the Melaka Street culture without the heat and the dust.

My Hotel Review – Swiss Garden Hotel and Residences Malacca

My Review of Swiss Garden Hotel and Residences Malacca

As the start of school was extended until the 12th January. We took a trip to Melaka. I needed a rest cause the School Holidays was very hectic and busy where I worked, needed to spend time with my boys and mummy needed a rest as she was three months pregnant. So we had to have a change of atmosphere. Having a energetic two year old, I normally look for hotels that have food courts, a nice swimming pool, interesting places to visit and shopping complex all within walking distance. This time around I chose Swiss Garden Hotel & Residences Malacca as it was in town, above the Shore Shopping Complex and had a little water playground for my kids.

Check in was quick without filling any forms as the receptionist just typed in some of your details. Only issue we faced was locating the carpark as there were not much signage, so we went round the building twice. We found a parking just on the same level as the Ballroom and the Café, after asking two security guards. As the hotel opened only in December 2014, so I feel there is going to be more signage on the way.

Our room was on 13th floor overlooking part of Kampung Morten and the Melaka River. We could see the Melaka River Cruise boats moving up and down. The room balcony was quite large but without any furniture. Which was alright with us as we didn’t want the boys climbing up. The room was the usual hotel room set up with minimum decoration. As I have mentioned most of the time its OK as we were not going to spend much time in the room. Channels are also limited, there’s the Malaysian Channels, some Singapore channels, Fox Movies, Disney and Travel & Living. The saving grace was the DVD player which had a USB slot that I could show movies or my two year old’s Pocoyo to keep him occupied.

The Executive table but I felt it was not practical for families as the edge of the table was quite dangerous for little kids. But thats my opnion only.

The view of the Melaka River from our room.

There was no Food Court (like other Shopping Malls in Malaysia have) at the Shore, only restaurants like Ninja Joe, Seoul Garden, Starbuck and La Bodega. So we ended up having dinner in the Garden Terrace as we are all exhausted and didn’t want to venture out. Our room came with breakfast for two which was also served in the Garden Terrace. The spread was the usual hotel spread. Only difference they served freshly brewed coffee, Cappucino and Expresso. There were a noddle station, waffle station and also fresh fried egg station.

My favourite Freshly Brewed Coffee

After breakfast we went to the swimming which had a small water playground. It was really fun for both of us. We sprayed each other, walk through the spray arch and so on. But we couldn’t use the pool much as it was raining most of the time during or stay.

My Verdict

A great place if you want to just use the pool or laze around. Its about 10 mintes drive from the major tourist attraction like Jonker Street, Kampong Morten and so on. As for food you have to go out as there are not much food outlets at the Shore. Therefore I still prefer the Hatten Hotel as its has a few food outlets within walking distance.

ALSO READ Hotel in Melaka - Hatten Hotel Melaka We chose Hatten Melaka for two reasons. One was that we could bring my four year old to the Coral Wonderland Aquarium which is just across the road from the hotel. The other reason was that Mahkota Parade was just next door, so my wife could go for her shopping terapy. Check in was a breeze as we checked in on a weekday. Melaka gets really crowded on weekends and holidays, especially hotels around the the historical sites. Parking is located within the Hatton Square which will be a problem on weekends as shoppers will also park there. The hotel is huge and very busy especially at Chatterz their all day dining on level 11 during breakfast. Read more here, please CLICK HERE

CORAL WONDERLAND MELAKA

I found out about this place from a friend who resides outside of Melaka. The Coral Wonderland Melaka is located on the fourth floor of the Hatten Square just across the road from the Hatten Hotel. Thats why we stayed at the Hatten Hotel, I didn't want to brave the famous Melaka traffic jam.

Stingray and Starfish that you can touch

Keep your expectations low cause the Coral Wonderland is quite small unlike the aquarium in KLCC or Langkawi. Buts its ok for a start. The entrance fee might quite steep to some. The entrance fee is RM30 for adults and RM20 for kids.

Upon entering the Aquarium you will be greeted by what's advertised as the  'The Longest Touch Pool in Asia. Not sure if this is true but here you can touch or hold tame fishes like baby sharks, puffer fish, stingray, seahorse, starfish and many more. But my four year old didn't fancy touching slimy fishes.

Most of the displays were little aquariums with explanations of the displayed creatures. Its an educational place for families to visit, the kids can have fun touching the sea creatures. There's also a display on reptiles and bugs.

There's even a quiz paper given by the counter. After you complete it you will receive a key chain at the end of your tour as the reward for the quiz.

The location of Coral Wonderland is
F4-01A & F4-99, Level 4,
Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall, Jalan Merdeka,
75000 Bandar Hilir, Melaka, Malaysia

Operating Hours

Last Admission 9.00pm

Weekend, Public Holidays & School Holidays
10.30am to 10.30pm

Hatten Hotel Melaka

My Review of the Hatten Hotel in Melaka

wpid-20130304_163652.jpgWe chose Hatten Melaka for two reasons. One was that we could bring my four year old to the Coral Wonderland Aquarium which is just across the road from the hotel. The other reason was that Mahkota Parade was just next door, so my wife could go for her shopping terapy. Check in was a breeze as we checked in on a weekday. Parking is located within the Hatton Square which will be a problem on weekends as shoppers will also park there. The hotel is huge and very busy especially at Chatterz their all day dining on level 11 during breakfast. wpid-Hatten-Room.jpgThe room we got was rather large with a lounge with a sofa and a large TV. There is also a flatscreen TV in the bedroom. There is no bathtub only a rain shower stall which is ok cause we hardly use bathtubs nowadays. We had the view of the swimming pool so my four year old couldn't wait to jump in especially when he saw the water fountain shooting out from the floor next to the kiddie pool. The swimming pool was located on the12th floor together with the Gym and Sauna. There is also a small bar at the poolside called Splash which serves beverages. There are only two food and beverage outlets at Hatten Melaka, one was their all day dining called Chatterz and the poolbar called Splash. But food shouldn't be problem as there are numerous food outlets around, either at the Mahkota Parade or Hatten Square. The only thing that some might find troublesome is that the lift from the carpark only goes to either the lobby or the 11th floor. From there on you have to change lift to go to your floor by putting your keycard into the slot. But this is a good problem in terms of our safety as non inhouse guest cannot access the floors that have rooms. Check Hotelcombined for best rates in Melaka, Malaysia
