Using Car Stickers to Promote your Restaurant

Imagine having millions or even billions of mini billboard moving around your city. And with minimal cost to your business. Imagine other people promoting your restaurant. All this can be achieve using Window Car Stickers. Hand out unique car stickers to your customers and also people in your area. Let them stick on their window and when they drive around you will have a moving Billboard. Below is from my Restaurant Promotion Ideas website about the usage of Car Stickers to promote your restaurant.

Restaurant Promotion Ideas #42 – Car Stickers

I noticed some unique car stickers on car windows from Starbucks and 7eleven. This got me thinking that it is a great advertising avenue for my restaurants. Cause cars are  moving around, so you got a free promotion billboard moving around your city. So if your sticker unique as well as eye catching, people notice your logo. Make sure you put your address on it. In cities, there is traffic jams and also massive parking lots.  So people will have time to take down your number or your website address.

R & R Jejantas Air Keroh, Melaka

Whenever we travel to Melaka or from Melaka heading north, we will usually stop at the R&R Jejantas Air Keroh.  What's unique about this rest stop is that the some of the restaurants are on the bridge over the highway. The restaurants are KFC, A&W as well as Restoran OB. I believe OB stands for Over the Bridge. Being typical Malaysian, we look for rice for most of our meals. So we usually head to Restoran OB. They have the normal Malaysian Fare such as Nasi Lemak, Nasi Goreng, Mee Goreng and so on. Prices are also reasonable around RM6. 00 for a plate of Nasi Lemak with a large piece of Ayam Rendang. And my kids  usual had the chicken rice. As the restaurant is above the highway you will have the full view of vehicles plying the highway. So this keeps my sons occupied. They will sit by the window and watch the cars as well as lorries go by. Thus keeping them quiet while daddy and mummy eat.

Also to the restaurants, there is also souvenir shops. Also located  infront of the Restoran OB is the Al Ikhsan Sports shop. As with other rest stops in Malaysia, there is enough parking and toilets are clean. There are also many food outlets located near the car park. And also a Baskin and Robbins.

Create Awesome New Year's Eve Memories to keep People Comng Back for More

In 2001, the National Restaurant Association estimated that 100 million Americans plan to celebrate the New Year by going out to a retaurant or bar. Their survey showed that one in five Americans will go to a bar or restaurant on New Year's Eve. So in order to close he year with a bang, there's alot you need to do. You must promote fast to get the people into your door on New Year's Eve. After you get people in, you need to make your party awesome, so they will return next yearand the following year. In my Restaurant Promotion Ideas site, I have listed some ways that I do to amp my Ne Year's Eve Party.

Restaurant Promotion Idea # 41 – Make your New Year party Memorable to keep them coming back

New Year’s Eve day, is an opportunity to let your hair down as well as party with friends. There are lots of reasons to celebrate New Year’s Eve. You can say to celebrate a fantastic year thats passing.  Or perhaps you can say goodbye to a not so good year and hope the coming year will be better. Most people will start searching for party venues early. Thus begin early to promote your restaurant or bar  to be ahead of the rest. Get your entertainment plan early. Cause this is when the good entertainers get booked early. Make sure you have enough staff as well as beverages. Do you need to have any special food? Pretty much everything in place, you still need to plan some activities to make your New Year’s Eve party even awesome. So people will come back next year and the following year. Here are some ideas on how to amp up your party. Some I have carried out and some I am going to try.

1. Create a Theme

Rather than doing just a normal Countdown Party, do a party with a theme. This year I am going to do a “Mad Hatter Party”. My staff will put on different hats and the customer who comes in wearing funny hat will get a10% off on their beverage bill. There are many theme party ideas that you can do. Some examples are a Mardi Gras or even a Hawaiian Luau theme. Do something out of the ordinary that will “WOW” your customers. So they will be back next. I stumbled upon this great website on how to organise a theme party in your restaurant or bar. Please click here www.gourmetmarketing.net

Literally Drive your Customers to Your Restaurant

The thought of organising transportation for a group of people just to go out for lunch might seem daunting to some. This will deter them from coming to your restuarant especially if you are far from their office. So if you are able to, provide some sort of transporation to your restaurant. It will give your restaurant an edge above the rest. In my recent I wrote about how we used our resort bus to transport groups from their offices for lunch to our restaurants. Below is an excerpt from the article. If you want to know more, then click on the link to take you to the article.

Restaurant Promotion Ideas # 40 – Literally Drive Customers to Your Restaurant

The resort that I am presently attached to, just purchased a mini bus. To transport their guest as well as  employees to and fro the resort. Of which I felt could also benefit my restaurants too. So I came out with a special package Specially for Corporate Companies to dine in my restaurants. Besides Menus and Beverages, we also provided transportation from their office to the resort. This is for a group between 20 to 35 person, we will pick them up from their company or office in our bus. To know more, please CLICK HERE

Guest Post - Five Budget-Friendly Activities in Kuala Lumpur

Recently I had the honour of featuring a guest travel blogger in my Travel at Malaysia website. Jess has spent almost 3 and half years travelling and documenting her travels in her Tripelio website. Her blog is loaded with tips to help you enjoy your travels. There is even tips on Backpacking in Mongolian and hiking on the Inca Trail.

Five Budget-Friendly Activities in Kuala Lumpur

 Guest Post by Jess Signut
Thanks to Travel at Malaysia for sharing my article on the five best budget-friendly activities in Kuala Lumpur. It is a wonderful resource for anyone headed to Malaysia in the near future. And for those not planning a trip to Malaysia, I particularly recommend this article on the top 20 reasons why you should!
Although travel in Malaysia isn't quite as cheap as in some other countries in Southeast Asia, Kuala Lumpur can still definitely be done on a budget. There are plenty of free or cheap activities to fill your itinerary, regardless of what your interests are. Here are five of our favorites: Kuala Lumpur Sky line
Image courtesy of Guyfrombronx under CC BY 3.0

1. Take a Walking Tour.

The tourist parts of Kuala Lumpur are relatively compact, making the city easily navigable on foot. If you're interested in taking a walking tour to help orient yourself and to learn some of the history of the area, you can download apps with maps and information to your smartphone or tablet. You may also be able to take a free walking tour. These are sometimes put on by the city hall. The tour guides are paid only in tips, meaning you aren't obligated to shell out the exorbitant fees that some city tours charge, but you still get a great tour out of it.

2. Visit Masjid Jamek.

Roughly half of the population of Kuala Lumpur is Muslim, making this mosque a very important building in the city. In fact, it served as the main mosque of the city for the first half of the twentieth century, until the National Mosque, Masjid Negara, was completed. Masjid Jamek is Moorish in style, making it markedly different from the Chinese and Indian temples that also dot the city (many of which are also free to enter).

5 Easy Ways To Go About Marketing A Restaurant

By: Nick Fosberg Founder of Bar Restaurant Success
Author of “The Bar Restaurant Owners Guide To Doubling Your Profits & Loyal Regulars In Any Economy”

1. Facebook

According to pewinterent.org 71% of adults use Facebook. That’s the highest of all social media outlets as of now. Where Twitter comes in at 2nd place at only 23%.

The best way to use Facebook is to use Facebook ads, but do it using the “Power Editor.” Why? Because you can target people based on their purchase behavior. For example you can target people based on if they are buying beer, wine, liquor, or meals at other bars and restaurants in your area!
If you’d like to see a video of exactly how to do that, you can do so by clicking here

Big Tip: If you are going to use Facebook ads in order to get the greatest return, you must make them an offer! Don’t just promote specials and prices. You want to make them an offer and have them come in to redeem that offer or take them to a lead capture website, a one page site that collects their information in exchange for the offer.
When you advertise like this on Facebook, you’ll be able to track the results better. You’ll know how many people came in or how many people opted in to get your offer.

2. Restaurant Review Sites

Restaurant review sites are the perfect opportunity to place an ad because you are popping up in front of people who are LOOKING for a place to eat or drink. Perfect audience to target right?
In my opinion I’d have to say that Yelp, Urban Spoon, and Zagat are the top 3 players in the review site niche. Look them up on google and test our $100 or so in ads and see what kind of results you get.
Just remember, you want to focus your marketing dollars on where you think you can hit your prime target market. Restaurant review sites is perfect for this!

The Benefits of having a Take Away Counter in your Restaurant

Restaurant Takeaway CounterRecently I mentioned that I added a take away counter in front of my restaurant. Which in turn gave me some incremental revenue. This particular idea is good in places where you have heavy foot traffic. Some examples are shopping malls and sidewalks. So it worked well as the resort lobby was just infront of my restaurant. Which gets busy when people check in and out.

A research done by the National Restaurant Association "nearly half (46 percent) of adults and 61 percent of millennials say an important factor in choosing a table service restaurant is the ability of takeout or delivery options" Source National Restaurant Association.

One of the benefits as as stated above is the incremental revenue received. As will be taking away food items, this won't disrupt your turn over of tables. This will be extra revenue together with the revenue from dining in. This increases your revenue without raising the operation cost much. You don't even the need to expand your restaurant. You need a staff to man the counter and also a small counter space.

Another benefit is that if the people that are taking away the food likes the food. They may dine in. Because the one thing that will bring customers back is your food. Should you offer delicious takeaways, then this will entice them to come back for more plus they might even dine in. Which means you have to make certain that the food on display is fresh as well as delicious. Additionally ensure that your counter is lit and signs are visible. And don't stinge on packaging, get some high quality and designed packaging. If you have the budget, create unique packaging that will make your restaurant stand out above the rest. I like the packaging from a bakery shop shown below. Unique and has the menu of the other products on it. Serves two purpose as a packaging as well as a flyer. Add some new items to keep your customers interested in your takeout counter. Keep the popular ones. Take a look at how the big boys such as Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonalds, Pizza Hut do it. They are changing their specials but keeping the favourites.

One more benefit of having a takeaway counter is to sell your desserts. Put a takeaway counter by the cashier counter and visible to the dining area. Add some scrumptious looking desserts. Some customers might not have dessert in your restaurant after their meal, they might be full. If you have packaged desserts to go they might take some home. To have later with their favourite hot beverages. As with any kind of business you need to look for new ways as ideas to get incremental revenue. Do visit my other post in this Restaurant Promo Ideas website for more ideas. Hope it will be of great help to you.

Here's an interesting article on people who benefited from having a takeout window. Happy reading Windows of opportunity: how takeaways got posh

Giving your 100% even if its your Last Project

Recently I was asked to assist in the discussion of our new upcoming property. They were doing the initial planning and needed some feedback from the people  on the ground. Those that ran the daily operations.

It got me thinking me thinking should I do it just for the sake of doing it. Cause the property is miles away and will ony be ready in about 5 years down the road. Not sure if I will ever be working there. So why should I give my 100%.

Then I remembered this story I received a few years ago. Its about a carpenter who was retiring. So his boss gave him one last project. Which was to build a house according to his specification and he could use any material in the store. So the carpenter did it half hearted. He was not going to be a carpenter anymore, so why should he care. When the house was completed, the boss presented it to him as a going away present for all his years of hardwork. He was sad cause he made the house really slipshot. The moral of the story is whatever job you get, do it 100%.

Petronas Malaysia even did a video similar to the story above. The video is below, enjoy.

10 Tips for Running a Profitable Restaurant or Bar

Faced with intense competition, rising food and labor costs and sluggish economy, today’s bar and restaurant owners and operators know they can never take their eyes off of the bottom-line.

From menus and culinary trends to technology, here are 10 smart ideas to help your bar or restaurant stay competitive and profitable.

1) Reinvent your restaurant:
In a Buffalo News article by Stephen T. Watson, “In restaurant industry, high turnover and intense competition,” industry veteran Steve Calvaneso said, “You have to reinvent yourself at least once every 10 years.” Calvaneso’s restaurant holdings over the years have included Hooligan’s, City Grill, Bacchus Wine Bar ; Restaurant and Libation Station.

2) Stay hungry and don’t rest on your laurels:
When business is steady and you have established a steady stream of solid, loyal patrons, it’s easy to take a step back and just keep the business running as usual. But that kind of thinking can often lead to stagnation and risk of falling behind. “Hungry means to try to learn more, always try to work hard, try to understand more from others, don’t be afraid to ask questions, make mistakes and learn from your mistakes,” according to World-Renowned Sushi Chef Nobu Matsuhisa.

3) Pay attention to what customers are saying:
With popular review and social media sites, such as Yelp or Facebook, a complaint or negative comment from just one customer can quickly spread like wild fire. Therefore, staying on top of what your customers think and proactively asking for feedback are essential. For more information on this topic, check out our previous blog post on Smarts about how to get valuable customer feedback.

4) Embrace technology:
Customer-interfacing technologies are a plus with many restaurant consumers who would rather pay their own tab than wait for the bill from their busy server. More and more restaurants are replacing paper reservation books with electronic reservation systems (i.e. OpenTable or UrbanSpoon), and putting tablets at the table for their customers to view menus, pay their bill, etc.

5) Add entertainment to the mix:
Entertain guests while they are waiting with interactive Trivia and Poker games. They will be more likely to stick around longer and less likely to complain about slow service or waiting to be seated. Check out our BEOND social, mobile, entertainment & marketing platform!

21 Life Tips From The Timeless Wisdom Of Lao Tzu- Part 1

Lao Tzu is believed to have lived in ancient China around 6th century BC.

Exact details of who Lao Tzu was and when he lived have been a topic of debate among historians.
Some even believe that Lao Tzu was not a single person and was the synthesis of many wise people of the time.

Even though the identity of Lao Tzu may not be clear, the legendary work Tao Te Ching has been illuminating the paths of millions over the centuries.

Considered one of the most profound pieces of wisdom ever written, the Tao Te Ching is a short work of 81 chapters. The Tao Te Ching is Translated as “The Classic way,” or simply “The Way.” It would be an understatement to say that it is full of timeless tips for living that are relevant even today.

In this post, we begin scratching the surface of Lao Tzu’s great work. I have been deeply influenced by Lao Tzu over the years and this post is my profound gratitude for his wisdom and guidance.

This is Part-1 of the 2-part series on the wisdom of Lao Tzu.

Eater outreach: Restaurants invest in social media to attract customers, but how well does it work?

By Howard Riell, Special to VEGAS INC

If you build it — a social media bridge to restaurantgoers — they will come, right?

Not so fast.

Social media is all the rage: The Pew Research Center reports adults who use Instagram has doubled in two years from 13 percent in 2012 to 26 percent in 2014.

But a majority of Americans — 62 percent — say social media has no effect on their purchasing decisions. In the restaurant industry, the Sprinklr Social Business Index reports the average restaurant has a mere 3 percent engagement rate on social media.

That means restaurants would be better off ratcheting down their social media expectations and connecting with consumers offline. Offline word-of-mouth, from face-to-face or phone conversations, has a significant advantage (50 percent vs. 43 percent) over online interactions with respect to purchase intent, a Keller Fay Group TalkTrack study found.

The good news is there are lots of ways to engage customers offline, including stellar food and service, loyalty programs, friendly hosts and servers, charity work and community involvement.

The perks and pitfalls of social media

Armand Iaia, regional manager for the Chicago-based restaurant consulting firm Cini-Little International Inc., says social media messages often are perceived as just another form of advertising.

“Many people are immune to this kind of advertising and do not pay attention to it. I don’t,” he said.

But Gary Worden, a restaurant operator and publisher of Restaurant Startup and Growth magazine, said social media can play an important role for smaller restaurants. Good reviews can boost business.

“Independent restaurants particularly seem to generate a good number of reviews that can have an effect on prospective guests and guest visits,” Worden said. “The higher the restaurant menu prices or if the guest has friends or a special occasion, the more influence the social media reviews can play a role.”

The industrialist Andrew Carnegie used these 10 principles to become the richest man in the world - Business Insider

Andrew Carnegie arrived in the US in 1848 with barely a dollar to his name. By 1901, he was the head of a steel empire and the richest man in the world.

At the height of his power, he was approached by a young journalist named Napoleon Hill who was interested in telling the stories of successful people.

Carnegie saw a special drive in Hill, and in 1908 he decided that Hill would document all of the strategies that made him a legendary businessman and philanthropist.

Together, they helped pioneer the self-help genre, and Hill’s 1937 book “Think and Grow Rich” has gone on to become one of the top-selling books of all time.

When Hill began his career writing about success, Carnegie gave him his “10 Rules of Success” that provided a foundation for much of Hill’s work.

Here’s a synopsis of the rules, which appear in the collection “The Science of Success“:

1. Define your purpose.
Create a plan of action and start working toward it immediately.

2. Create a “master-mind alliance.”
Contact and work with people “who have what you haven’t,” Hill says.

7 Habits of Self-Made Millionaires - Careers & Finance - EBONY

The Frugal Feminista offers tips on how to acquire the wealth that you've always wanted.

There are certain things that we have no control over. We have no control over when we will come out of this Great Recession and we have no control over being fired or laid off. But we do have control over our personal financial choices and our actions.

In other words, even with the grimmest of financial forecasts coming down hard you on, you can still make it to the land of milk and honey by changing some of your habits and thinking.

If you are willing to shift your thinking about money and life, you have the chance of becoming a self-made millionaire.

The Wealthy Live That #FabulousNFrugalLife. One of the key habits of the self-made millionaire is that they track their spending. Every penny has a position in their multi-million dollar empire. In other words, they keep a budget and are able to differentiate between a want and a need. If you need a budget starter tip, try the 50-30-20 rule. Use 50% of your income for your needs, 30% for your wants, and 20% for your savings and investing. If you want to jumpstart your journey to wealth, flip those last two percentages: save and invest 30% of your income and use 20% of your income for your fun, wants, and desires.

The Wealthy Take Their Grateful Pill Every Morning. Instead of complaining about what isn't working and what has yet to come, try copping an attitude of gratefulness. Being grateful is like a muscle. When you are training yourself to be grateful, you are preparing yourself to both attract and appreciate the greater and the grander.

The Wealthy Have a Crew and Seek to Expand It Strategically. The saying "misery loves company" is only partially true. Wealthy people are about networking, meeting, mentoring, being mentored in order to form meaningful relationships that will result in big dollar bottom lines for all involved.

5 Keys to Living a Life of Success and Personal Excellence

It’s doubtful that you got out of bed this morning and said, today I’m only going to live in a half-hearted sort of way.

Who do you know who lives with the intention of not fully living?  Probably no-one.

Yet, it often seems as though we’ve forgotten how to live a genuinely joyful life. And everything that shows up in our life…every circumstance, and every event seem so concrete, so permanent, that the idea of living differently, living with genuine heartfelt passion and enthusiasm is ridiculous.

Except it isn’t.

It’s tragic. It’s tragic that we don’t or we can’t.

Stuff happens. Life happens and it can be challenging and demanding. We have all sorts of issues to handle from the day to day mundane to the extraordinary, to the ‘where on earth did that come from’ event.

Truth be told we all have those days when we’re worn out, drained and weary, and when it feels as though we’ve lost our way.

But if you prefer to live a life on your terms, to live a life of success and personal excellence here’s 5 keys to help you do just that.

1. Never give up on yourself

This is it.

This is your life and it is precious.

Don’t relinquish your power, don’t resign yourself to living a mediocre life and believing that’s all there is. That’s just how it has to be.

Don’t give up on yourself.  But…

Do give up on comparing yourself to others, because you have something unique to offer that they don’t. There is no one form of talent that we all should have. You have been blessed with gifts and talents that are all your own. You are valuable just as you are.

And do give up on seeing life as a winning or losing proposition. It isn’t. It’s up and down, it ebbs and flows;  each moment bringing an opportunity to grow or to step back into the safety that will strangle your creativity and innovation and blind you to your potential.

But never, ever give up on yourself. Remember, most of the important things in life have happened because someone simply wouldn’t give up on who they were and what they could accomplish.

2. Demand more

You are part of the divine. A being of incredible potential.

And wonderful as that is, it doesn’t come with any guarantees. It doesn’t mean you will get to live a life of abundance, health, happiness, success and personal excellence. It just means you can. And everything you do or don’t do towards that end matters.

If you sleep in, instead of going to the gym, or meditating, it matters. If you play another game on one of your devices instead of reading that book, it matters. If you don’t get to that seminar, or don’t choose a healthy diet, it matters. It affects your consciousness, your mind- set and your philosophy of life. And they matter most of all.

It all comes down to a couple of  things; learn more than you knew yesterday, and be better than you’ve been before.

Demand greater things from yourself.

Venture away from what you know.  Expand your horizons. Read more. Plan more. Expect more.

You are strong and capable and filled to overflowing with potential.

Don’t waste it.

Halloween Preparations for your Restaurant

Some Halloween Articles to prepare your Restaurant for a Spooky Night

Halloween like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day is another festival that is currently being promoted by businesses especially those related to Food and Beverage. As with most of my promotions in this blog, below is a simple account on how we organised our Halloween Week. Hope if it will be of some help for your establishment.

Restaurant Promotion for October – Fun & Scary Halloween

October is the month to hold fun as well as scary promotional activities in your establishment. Its Halloween month. Host a Halloween bash in your bar or restaurant. If you are managing a restaurant come out with seasonal specialties such as Pumpkin Soup, Apple Cider Stew and so forth. Redesign the items by adding some gore into it. Send out free invitations to your regulars. Come out with humorous eye catching flyers. This year I am developing a doorknob flyer shaped like a white ghost and I will hang it on our room guest doors in the afternoons. This will certainly catch their attention when they return to their rooms in the evenings.

Inexpensive, Tasteful and Easy Halloween Decoration for your Restaurant

In my Halloween Promotion Idea Article a year ago, “Restaurant Promotion Idea #15 – Halloween Specials”. I pointed out that there are a plenty of Halloween Home decorating tips in the World Wide Web that you could use in your restaurant or pub. These days my favourite site for searching decorations is Pinterest. Merely go to their search bar and type your search keywords and press enter. What’s great is that Pinterest only displays the featured picture therefore its easy for you to skim through. Click on the picture you desire and navigate to the website. For me I save most of the interesting web page in Pockets, so as I can go through it later. Below are some sites of which I have found really interesting and I am going to make use of some of their ideas cause they are simple to do as well as inexpensive.

Interactive Tablet Menus for your Restaurant

Advantages and Disadvantages of Interactive Tablet Menus for your Restaurant

License by Creative Commons Recently I was ask to do a proposal on the usage of tablets as interactive menus. The management was pondering on this idea. The use of tablets is nothing new. Coupled with tablets sold at an affordable price. Some restaurants are trying out this type of alternative menu options. Below are several advantages as well as disadvantages on usage of tablet. That you should take into account. With the increase in restaurant using tablets, app developers are also getting into picture. There are many apps on Google Playstore some are free and some you have to buy.

ADVANTAGES

1. With the tablet you can add in beautiful pictures of your food and more information. You could create a link to each item that you want to add more information. The customer need to click on the link to get more info and a pop up with info will appear. Whereas with the traditional paper menu, there are limited space to add more information. Thus your waiter have to explain to the customer the dishes. Which will take a lot of your waiters time.
2. You can even create a link to a video on how each dish is prepared.
3. With a tablet you can add monthly  specials as and when you want to. Whereas with a paper menu, you have to print on a separate sheet of paper and present it alongside the menu.
4.. The information can be updated in realtime. With the ever changing prices and stock availablilty. The ability to change the menus when there is a discountinued product at real time is a plus. With traditional paper menus, you  either have to change the whole menu which is costly. Or ugly stickers over the item.
5. With a tablet menu you can even do a daily special. It can be special items that the chef have just obtained from the local market. The old way is to use a large blackboard and place it at the entrance. But your customer may miss it on the way in plus the blackboard doesn't  say a lot about the dish. And your waiter needs to paint a beautiful  as well as mouthwatering image in the guest mind with only his words. This takes time. But with a delicious looking pictures coupled with a detailed explanation. Customers will order that particular dish.  Then when the specials ends, you just need to remove it from your tablets. Its that easy.

DISADVANTAGES

1. Tablets can easily get broken when accidently dropped by a customer or staff.
2. The initial investment of buying the tablets are large for some.
3.Tablets can get stolen.
4. Some of your customers might not favour a tablet. Reason being they might feel that the whole day is spend infront of a screen, even for dinner they are in front of a screen.   Tablets will be nice addition to your restaurant. But you still need to weight the Advantages and Disavantages. Do you need it? Will it help increase revenue? Will it speed up the ordering process? Will he customers be so engrossed with the tablet menu, that it delays the ordering process? How will my customers accept it?

Restaurant Menus gets Creative – Here are some of my Favourites

I enjoy creating as well as searching for menu ideas for my restaurants. When l was working at this little resort in the East coast of Malaysia some years back. Our all day dining restaurant was made to look like a Malaysian Coffee shop. Even its name was "Kedai Kopi" which means coffee shop Malay.

As daily newspapers was a common feature in most Malaysian coffee shops. I created a menu that looked like a newspaper. I discovered that I could photocopy on newsprint paper. So I searched the web for free newspaper or newsletter templates and created my menus. Added some entertaining ad boxes between just like a normal newspaper. Printed on white paper. Next I photocopied on the newsprint paper. I even added some information about Malaysia as well as the surrounding into it. For our guest to read whilst waiting for their food. I then created a newspaper rack for us to store the menus. Since the menus were printed in house we could alter the menus. We could even our monthly specials together with the menu. Below is the sample of the front page of my menu.

Additionally below are some of my favourites. I will add more when I find some more unique and creative menus

A self-made millionaire says these are the 4 things you should do once you achieve success - Business Insider

I agree with this guy, the more successful you are the more humble you have to be. Read the part of the article here. If you want more click the link below.

A self-made millionaire says these are the 4 things you should do once you achieve success

Almost everyone wants to be successful. Many consider it the ultimate goal in our personal and professional lives.

But what happens once we reach it?

Most people don’t think that far ahead, says Paul Scolardi, a self-made millionaire who has figured out how to continue thriving after achieving success.

Scolardi, who spent nearly two decades in corporate finance as a Certified Public Accountant, has been investing and trading in stocks for over 18 years (“I manage my own money in the stock market; I do not manage or touch other people’s money in any way,” he explains to Business Insider) and is now a financial educator through his company, Super-Trades LLC.

“I became a millionaire by trading my own money with the strategy I now teach,” he says. “My goal was always to be financially independent and to be my own boss. That is what I have achieved and that was my litmus test for success: financial independence, being my own boss, and being able to work from anywhere. I would say I have [considered myself successful] for about three years now.”

From the moment he first felt like he had “made it,” Scolardi knew his work wasn’t done — he knew he had to keep going. That’s when (and why) he started his stock education business.

He says if you achieve your biggest goals and then lie back, put your feet up, and stop pushing yourself, “you become lost and directionless.” Instead, there are four things you should do as soon as you feel like you’ve achieved success. They are:

1. Stay humble.

Once you achieve success, fight the urge to get cocky and arrogant, he suggests. “That is what I did after becoming a millionaire the first time and I lost it all.”

If you have that mindset, you could easily lose friends, family, and supporters — and the joy that often accompanies success will be ripped away in a second.

Restaurant Promotion Idea #39 - Unique and Crazy Bar Challenges

This is sort like a sequel to my earlier post Restaurant Promotion Idea #38 – Fun and Unique Restaurant Challenges. I got this video on my Facebook page. Its a crazy bar challenges. They call it the "Military Shots". Just watch the video below.

We modified the idea a bit. What we did was instead of the military hat, we used a construction hard hat. We referred the challenge to "The Hard Hat Challenge". Like the video, the customer got struck with his drink on the hard hat. Then a rubber mallet. Followed by their drink and a shovel. Finally it was their drink as well as an empty barrel. Our variation was that the friend performed this instead of the bartender. Thus if the friend wanted to get even, they had to buy another round of "Hard Hat Cocktails". The people that completed the "Hard Hat Challenge" got our pub t-shirt and their photo on the pub wall. Its was fun and the customers enjoyed themselves. Some even took videos and pictures to post on their social media. That's free advertisement for you.

To add to the enjoyment, I purchased several syringes and test tubes. Created shooter drinks in them and sold it as prescription after the "Hard Hat Challenge". After the challenge, you can buy our special "Hard Hat Painkillers" at a discounted price. So we managed to get incremental business. Hard Hat Painkiller Shooters

Another challenge that you can use is like the Youtube video below. The person who finishes all the shooters at one go and is still standing. Will get the beverages free of charge, a challenge t-shirt as well as their photo on the wall of fame. Ensure you collect the money first. Otherwise when they pass out before they finish, you might not get your money at all. I saw this kind of challenge at a tiny bar in Koh Samui, Thailand known as "Viking Bar".

Look around or surf Youtube. There's alot of crazy and unique bar challenges to add the "WOW" in your place

A review on my Favourite Expense Tracker App

Track your Daily Expenses with Spending Tracker App for Android

I began tracking my expenses a few years ago. My salary was increasing yearly with the yearly increment as well as promotions. But I was facing the same situation at the end of every month. The balance by the end of each was the same as before my increment. Even though there was no change in my monthly fixed expenses. After tracking my daily expenses, I discovered what was eating my money. My little coffee breaks at the little coffee shop nearby. It was taking a big chunk of my personal income combined with my lunch breaks there. It was not a necessary expense. As the company where I was working, provided breakfast and lunch free of charge. I still track my daily expenses at the moment. As there might be some unnecessary expenses in.
I used to use a notebook, but it always got lost. After switching to android operating system phone, I tried many expense tracking apps. Recently I found an excellent known as "Spending Tracker". This app is simple to use.
The first page is "Spending". Here you can get an overview of your expenses by categories and also your balance. There are also two buttons that you can input your expenses and income.

When you press the expense button, you will move to this screen. Here you can put in your expenses in categories and also add a note to it. Simple.

The 2nd page will be the "Transaction" page. Here you will see all your transaction starting the recent expense. They have even add a filter button, here you'll be able to select the category you want to see. And you will see each transaction in each category. You can also add your own category. I  have 4 categories for each associated with my kids as well as wife.

The third page is the "Categories" page. Here you can see all your categories.

This app is so easy too use and is helpful if you need to track where all your money went.
You can get from the Google Play Store. For more information, click here Spending Tracker @ Google Playstore

Restaurant Promotion Idea #38 – Fun and Unique Restaurant Challenges

8023922544_428384b9a8_zBesides creating signature dishes or beverages. You can also create fun as well as unique challenges. This will make your restaurant stand out above your competition.

Many may have watched Adam Richman on "Man vs Food". Adam goes around The United States searching for unique and outrageous restaurant challenges. The challenges vary from eating the largest burger or pizza, eating the highest number of oysters or chicken wings at a specific time. The winner will receive a restaurant souvenir along with their picture on the wall. Do something like that to create awareness for your restaurant.

In Malaysia we have this dessert known as "ABC" or in Malay "Ais Batu Campur". Its made from shaved ice with lots of sweet ingredients as well as toppings. So what we did when I was to this tiny resort in Cherating, Malaysia.  We sold this particular dessert in a large bowl. The bowl was really really huge.  So when we placed the shaved ice into it, you will get a large colourful snow cone. The person who ate the entire bowl will get it free of charge. Most people were not after the free dessert, they ordered just for the fun of it. In my two years there only one person managed to finish the dessert.  Yet it was a "WOW" factor whenever we brought it out. We even weaved through the crowded restaurant so others can see this jumbo dessert.  Make use of the social media to promote this together with pictures of winners.

Watch "Man vs Food" and you will have an idea what I mean. You will stand out as the restaurant with the largest burger or pizza. Customers will share on the social media their crazy antics, they experienced at your restaurant.

Here are some "Man vs Food" to get you started.
